CISM Beach Volleyball History

Beach Volleyball is a team sport played by two teams of two players on a sand court divided by a net. It has been an Olympic discipline since the 1996 Olympic Games. It has also become a global sport, with international competition organized by the Fédération Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB).

It is a relatively new sport within the CISM, International Military Sports Council. The first championship were held in the frame of World Military Games 2011 as a demonstrative sport with 9 male and 5 female teams. Mostly dominated on the world scene by the American and Brazilian teams, the sport has very quickly spread to the rest of the world as well.

The 1st World Military Beach Volleyball Championship was held in Warendorf, Germany with 9 male and 4 female teams.

This year, Brazil has graciously accepted to host the 2nd  World Military Beach Volleyball Championship. This Championship like other CISM events provide soldiers from around the globe the opportunity to meet in friendship on the sport playing field.

The defending champions from Name of Nation team will be in Brazil ready to take on the challenge.
